One of the most popular commercial roofing materials is EPDM. It’s time-tested for around 60 years to work for your roof. Not only does it provide cost-efficiency, but EPDM is resistant to sunlight and hail damage. It also comes in white or black to reflect or absorb heat, depending on what you’re trying to do for your electric bill.

If you’ve got a flat roof for your residential home, you might not need EPDM. Some properties have a lower slope, which isn’t ideal for the material. Common examples are garages, carports, and sunrooms. Your porch doesn’t need EPDM, which is when we might suggest a self-adhering membrane from GAF. We want to work with your budget to find the best solution for your flat roof, so give us a call today for an estimate!

There’s a reason that EPDM is so popular, and it has to do with how efficient it is. The material closely resembles rubber in look and feel, but it’s more than that. When you want EPDM on your flat roof, we’ll use a roll of the material and use glue to install it to your roof exterior. We might suggest a protective coating to reflect UV rays, because this can save on your air conditioning. As a material, EPDM can last 25 years, so it’s worth the investment.

The other most-common choice is TPO. This is a newer commercial roofing material, but it definitely has benefits. We can heat-weld TPO onto the roof, which is highly effective. It’s also great for numerous situations that EPDM might not work with. The main drawback with TPO is that it hasn’t been around long enough for a true comparison of the materials in longevity and performance. Some of the other flat roof materials you might like are:

  1. PVC, which is better for projects with a large scope.
  2. BUR. This type of roofing is cost-effective, but it requires a strong roof to hold the weight of built-up roofing. EPDM is usually the better choice.
  3. Modified bitumen is older, but the material is most similar to EPDM.
  4. SPF, which stands for spray polyurethane. If we can’t take off the pre-existing roofing completely, this high-density foam can be sprayed onto your roof to seal any leaks or cracks. The foam creates waterproofing for your flat roof.

If you want to get the best for your flat roof, Wright’s Roofing & Construction has you covered. When you call us today and schedule your estimate, you’re already taking the first step to quality results!
